Prairie Fire

This watercolor, “Prairie Fire”, was the results of a watercolor method that is quite spontaneous.  It leaves an unintentional image on the paper that leaves the artist to decide what the next step will be to complete the work drawing with a marker.  It is very freeing, due to no thought out concept for the work.  It is also quite interesting what I may see one day in the watercolor to the next day.  It was a hot dry day last summer when I added the marks to the watercolor.  The area where I live was experiencing a drought, and I was listening to news reports about prairie and canyon fires.  With the warm colors and fire-like texture on the paper, I could see the dry, drought ridden plains with the sun beating down as I added the illustrated lines.
